| With systematical investigation and study of the stilted buildings of the Tujia people,the author concludes the style and features of the Tujia traditional architecture,especially that in West Hunan.The author tries to use techniques of stilted building and design methods of modern architecture together to restore a village school,which involving elements from both traditional stilted buildings and modern school buildings.Further searching a new way to transmit the Tujia architectural culture is the main purpose of constructing such a special village school.First of all,this paper describes and analyses the histories,characters and lifestyles of the Tujia people,from which the cultural roots of the stilted building can be seen.Secondly,this paper describes the author’s study of the Tujia architecture,including its existing situation and building structure,and lists architectural elements extracting from the stilted buildings.At last,this paper explains the Chinese government’s new move to protect and transmit traditional culture,and shows the methods to design a village school that can not only satisfy modern education’s functional requirements,but also present local and national characteristic.The author believes that the school can be a cultural carrier to help forward cultural heritage.After referring to some cases about school constructs from home and abroad,the author decides to use traditional architectural features from perspectives of element,material and spatial layout.With a large amount of practical data,this thesis proves the value and feasibility to restore a national featured Chaoshuihe village school in West Hunan.China now pays more attention than ever to transmit traditional culture and build village schools.Against this background,showing the characteristic of the stilted building in modern school buildings can be a new project todevelop the Tujia culture.I assert that it is very important for traditional elements to harmonize with modern architecture.And I hope the design methods mentioned in this thesis will be helpful for school construction in the minority areas. |
