| Small-scale garden is a type of small-scale leisure-style public activity space on the campus.With a small area,its location could be flexible.It is an important component of the campus landscape,and also a material medium for teachers and students to relax.It plays an important role in showcasing the image of the campus as well as maintaining the landscape environment.With increasing emphasis on environmental construction in colleges and universities by the state and the society,campus landscape design has been given a new meaning in the current era.However,the problems in campus landscape design are becoming increasingly highlighted: the repetitive campus landscape with hollow content fails to meet the needs of teachers and students.Inadvertently,its unique significance as a venue in the campus is also disappearing.This study takes the small-scale garden of the North Campus of Shandong Agricultural University as the research object to study the landscape design of small-scale garden in campus through literature research methods,and field research methods and comprehensive analysis methods.The conclusions are as follows:(1)Defined the concept of small-scale gardens in campus,explored the design essentials of its landscape constituent elements,divided the space,summarized the characteristics of small-scale gardens,and explained the difference between the small-scale garden in campus and in city from the differences in the main user groups and user experience.(2)The usage condition for the users in the small-scale gardens of Shandong Agricultural University was investigated to generalize the characteristics of the users’ types,preferences,types of activities and their demands and opinions.Results indicated that for the users’ types,students aged 25 years old and below accounted for 56%,and 14% was made up by the middle-aged people aged 26 to 40 years old.People whose ages were over 41 years old tookup 30%.As to the preferences,the number of users during 11:00 and 14:00,accounting for24.8% of the total,was maximum,followed by the users’ number from 05:00 to 08:00 taking up 22.4%.Minimum number of people was found during 19:00 to 23:00,which only has5.7 %.With regard to the activity types,small-scale gardens were used for the purpose of walking through there by 63.2% of users,which occupied the highest percentage.As for the demands and opinions,56.9% and 36.8% of users held that leisure facilities and lighting facilities should be added respectively.The existing problems in the small-scale gardens,such as inadequate infrastructure,disorderly planting,lack of culture,and disordered site forms and functions,were put forward objectively and the design conditions were discussed.Thus the corresponding solutions to the problems were proposed.(3)In view of the practice cases,this paper came up with the principle of landscape design for small-scale gardens,namely,taking plants as the carrier and the reinforcement of the connection between the users and green space as the core.A complete set of landscape design for small-scale gardens in colleges and universities were formed to construct the small-scale gardens into the campus green space with landscape,practicality,functionality,and humanity,which has great significance for improving the overall campus environment of Shandong Agricultural University. |
