Study Of Bamboo Architecture Structural Joint And Its Design Expression

The history of bamboo used in building has last quite a long time.Workmen at all times and in all countries have really rich experience in how to build houses with bamboo,and they have master large number of bamboo structure and bamboo joints.However,with the development of the times and the progress of technology,people create many wonderful architecture materials,which have better material properties than bamboo.Bamboo,as a traditional,had pass into silence by modern people.Fortunately,architects in all countries began to focus on bamboo as a architecture material again since 1950s.After 1990s,with the modern architecture theories such as Regionalization and Tectonic began to be known to more architects,bamboo,a kind of traditional material with distinctive regional characteristics and full of tectonic sense,goes back on the stage of building.The joints design is one of the most base part of architecture design,and the construction quality of joints has close connection of the stability and aesthetics of buildings.In this study,I focus on the structural joints of bamboo architectures,which is based on the material characteristics,structure and process engineering.I analyse the structural of bamboo architecture joints through two parts,which can be considered as technical factors and artistic factors.I also collect and sum up the bamoo architectures joints existed in order to offer reference to those who inter to use bamboo as material to design a building.The first chapter introduce the background,object,correlation in doors and outdoors,the purpose and significance,contents and methods of this study,and put forward the corresponding study framework.The second chapter introduce joint in a macro sense,including its definition,category,main research object and incidence,then introduce the bamboo architecture structural joint.The third chapter introduce the relationship between bamboo architecture structural joint and the bamboo material,structure types of bamboo architecture and the process engineering.The forth chapter introduce the exising bamboo architecture structural joint,and I select some representative joints to discuss their specific advantages and disadvantages.The fifth chapter introduce some exising bamboo architecture cases,and I discuss their structural joints through technical and artistic levels.The sixth chapter organize and summarize the whole paper,and I preliminary analysis the mode and scope use of bamboo material.The whole thesis contains about 45 000 words,150 pictures and charts.
