Ship Domain is an important part of maritime traffic engineering and also the research content that experts and scholars in navigation community pay more attention to.The research on ship domain is of great significance for the automatic collision avoidance,the capacity of navigating channel and the risk assessment of navigable water.In recent years,the vessel becomes more and more huge,and the original ample channel has now evolved into restricted waters.The risk of navigation is higher and there are many accidents in restricted waters.So It is particularly important to research the ship domain in restricted waters.With the development of the ship domain,the technical means of research from visual observation,radar observation,aerial photography to the Automatic Identification System(AIS).In contrast,the amount of ship data obtained by traditional means of observation is limited.Due to the early observation time and lack of large ship data,the model of ship domain cannot fully adapt to the development of modern shipping.Using AIS for real-time observation,the observation method is simple and wide,so a large amount of ship data can be obtained.Furthermore,Combined with the characteristics of AIS information,we can make statistics on the types of ships and the classification of ships' scales,which is convenient for application.In this paper,we chose the waters near the Xiazhimen as the study area and obtain vessel data in this waters using AIS equipment.Then the original data is decoded and AIS data is processed to build the ship dynamic and static information database.The ship domain in restricted waters is studied by improving and optimizing the existing research platform.Considering the types and scales of ship which are two main factors affecting the ship domain,the statistical methods were used to superpose 25 models in the restricted waters respectively,and the diversified ship domain models of different types and scales were obtained.The results of this study show that the ship domain model in restricted waters is thinner than the open waters.The size of the ship domain varies with the type of ship and the length of the ship.The influence of the length on the ship domain is even more pronounced,and the ratio of ship domain size to the ship length decreases in sequence with the increase of the ship length.
