Research On Universal Design Of Elderly Residential Behavior

With the acceleration of world aging population,China faces huge challenges.Most of the research on the design of old age product still remains at the design sage of barrier free,the idea which specializes the elderly and easily makes them have a sense of inferiority and discrimination psychologically.The emergence of universal design exactly solves this problem,and it provides a direction for the design issue of related products.This thesis takes elder's universal residential behavior as the starting point and foothold and cards the concept,principle and the general design procedure of universal design in the context of the development of universal design home and broad and the related products of elderly.Besides,combing with the changing characteristics of elderly physiologically and psychologically,this thesis also analyzes the feasibility of universal design in the elderly users and points out that using fairly and safely and operating easily and directly are the basis of universal property of old age products.The author acting as observes and interviews twelve elderly over sixty years old in Harbin and records their behaviors related to the residential life in a day.By inducting and analyzing that the behaviors of their residential life can be divided into necessary behavior,leisure entertainment,physical exercise behavior,communication behavior and self-realization behavior and combining with the questionnaire survey result,the author concludes the difficulties when elderly are faced with the issues,the author concludes the residential behavior features of elderly.Based on the behavior features of elderly,analyzing the products related to their residential activity and dividing these products into kitchen facilities,bathroom facilities,bedroom furniture and medical electronic leisure products this thesis demonstrates the design principles and ways of products related to elder's residential like safe,convenience,equity,ease of use and fault tolerance.Finally,this thesis takes the family bathroom facility as an example and concludes the existing problems of current local bathroom facility in design and use by investigating and analyzing the current state of elder's bathroom facility.People should design the bathing facility,toilet facility and defecate facility complying with the proposed principle and way.
