A Study Of The Design Strategy On The Public Space Of Museum Based On Openness

Result from the speed up of the age and the increasing number of the types of public behavior,the development of the museum has been closely linked to cities and the public.However,the public space of traditional museum is relatively isolated,which marks a clear boundary of urban space,thus causing a lack of interaction with the urban space.In addition,most traditional museums lay emphasis on the exhibition features,without paying attention to diverse needs of public functions,which is opposite to the trend of the times.It is not beneficial to the promotion of communicative life of the public.In order to get out of these limitations of traditional museum,the public space of contemporary museum has gradually presented its openness:the public space of the museum has become an integral part of urban space and associates with more and more functions concerning public service,moreover,it becomes an important occasion for daily cultural activities.Such improvements of contemporary museum slowly get rid of the dilemma caused by traditional museum,undoubtedly,the improvement would alter the situation in which museum is the institution for collection and the place for visits.Faced with these changes,it is necessary to study the openness of the public space in the museum,and come up with designing strategies relatively.This paper analyzes the openness of the public space in the museum,and explores its significance of the open features and the changing characteristics of public space which tend to be open.The research is based on methods of reading,investigating,inducing,comparing,analyzing the relevant literature and cases of the museums at home and abroad.According to the significance and characteristics,the paper concludes the purpose of the study-to explore the design strategies on the public space of museum which is based on openness.And the paper is divided into four parts.The first part,including chapter I,gives a brief introduction of the current situation of the public space of traditional museum,and illustrates the significance of the public space which has open features.Following are the limitations of the public space of traditional museum,then the core research question of this paper would be put forward:which designing strategies can make the museum public space have openness feature?The second part includes chapters Ⅱ and Ⅲ,which explores the question raised before in depth.Chapter Ⅱ consists of four components,which are the openness,the conception about the openness,the meaning of the museum public space,and the development of the museum public space which tends to be open.Chapter Ⅲ analyzes the changing characteristics of museum public space,the functions of public space,the relationship between public space and city,the people streamline of public space,and the relationship between public space and landscape.The third part,including chapter IV,which is based on the analysis of the first two parts,it puts forward practicable approaches to the issue.These approaches take advantage of organizing complex public function layouts,enhancing the relationships between public space and city,strengthening streamlines which can help the public communication,and using the landscapes to improve the attractiveness of public space.The fourth part,including chapter V,based on the analysis of the above chapters.It makes use of the case of Hangzhou Wushan Museum for interpretation,and explores the design strategy used in this case which helps the museum public space achieve openness,and this is one proof of the study of this paper.In a word,the research framework of this paper includes four parts,which is putting forward the questions,analyzing the problems,solving the problems and taking cases as a proof.At the same time,it analyzes a large number of museum instances,and get some design strategies which can make the public space of the museum have openness.I hope this study could provide assistance for the future research.
