In early 2000,Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, the first urban planning exhibition building in China, was completed. With the advancement of urbanization, urban planning exhibition buildings have been springing up in cities and regions across the country.Urban planning exhibition building,as a new type of professional exhibition hall, has an important publicity significance for a city(or region). It is the card of a city(or region),telling the public the histories of the city(or region),and outlining the beautiful blueprint of the city(or region). With the advent of the 5G era,the public’s demand for exhibition experience is gradually changing-from closed, static, unidirectional,to open, dynamic, and interactive.Under this premise, the author determined the open design of public space as the main focus of the paper, and carried out background research, concept interpretation, design case combing and other work.Through the research, the public space scale is divided into "macro","meso" and "micro" levels.Starting from the three levels of "opening of building and site","building volume combination and opening of external interface" and "opening of building public streamline and function design",the paper summarizes a series of public space design strategies of urban planning exhibition buildings. This paper combines theory with practice, taking the architectural scheme design of Nansha Pearl Bay Urban Planning and Exhibition Center as an example, applies the public space design strategies based on the open concept to the design practice, and supplements and perfects the design strategies according to the problems encountered in the design practice.
