A Study On Outdoor Parent-Child Space Landscape Design Based On Symbolic Interaction Theory

Parent-child relationship is the key element of a happy family.Well conducted parent-child interaction has a great impact during children’s formative years.With plentiful ways for parent-child interaction,outdoor space has been becoming the choice of more and more parents,which demands for better design of outdoor parent-child interaction spaces.Current outdoor spaces,such as resident activity area,amusement parks,botanical gardens,playgrounds and theme parks,are designed to meet the need of children,neglecting the need of parents themselves,thus cannot provide necessary parent-child interaction.To meet the goal of in-depth interaction between parents and children,resolving the issue of parent attendance while meeting specific functional demands at the same time has become an import topic in outdoor parent-child space design.When designing outdoor parent-child space landscape,under full consideration of parent-child interaction experience,additional symbols for parental memories would become the key for successful parent-child interaction.Systematic and innovative,symbolic interaction theory is a new aspect of outdoor parent-child space landscape design.This essay is based on studies and applications of psychology,behavior,sociology and design.After analyzing the psychological features and parent-child space requirements of different ages and gender,principles and methods of outdoor parent-child space design are concluded from features of parent-child space landscape design and applications of symbolic interaction theory in the designing of outdoor parent-child interaction space landscapes.
