According to the C-NCAP crash test results of recent years, the rear female occupant injury scores were generally low. However, there is little research on the rear occupants currently in the industry, especially for the optimization method of reducing rear occupant injuries. In this paper, the test data statistics, the influence factors analysis of the vehicle test and the simulation analysis are used to analyze the effects of the restraint system such as seats and seat belts on the rear occupant injuries in C-NCAP crash tests. The key indexes that affect the rear occupant injuries are obtained. On this basis, the corresponding improvement measures of the restraint system are put forward, and the optimization scheme of the restraint system is verified by using the sled tests and full-scale vehicle tests. The optimization scheme is applied to two own-brand vehicles, the neck and chest injuries of the rear occupant are reduced significantly in the 50 km/h frontal crash test. The C-NCAP scores of the rear occupant increase 0.63 points and 0.41 points. In this paper, the boundary condition of the rear occupant submarine, the relationship between the dummy's movement characteristics and the injury value, and also the dangers of the submarine phenomenon to the human body are researched and analyzed.By optimizing the seat frame, seat belt, seat fixing method and other measures, the dummy's movement posture is improved and the submarine phenomenon is avoided. In view of the rear dummy submarine, some criteria for judgment are put forward to provide important reference for further improving the C-NCAP test method and help improve overall vehicle safety.
