Since the industrial revolution,the application of metal materials in construction has been developed quickly.Metal materials has unique texture and good ductility,and perforated metal plate has unique artistic expression,mature processing technology,high recovery rate,good thermal performance.Thus,perforated metal plate became one of the most attractive technology of architects,and got to be used in constructions widely as a kind of building skins.In recent years,perforated metal building skin is more and more common in our country.There are many cases can be found only in Tianjin.However,these domestic cases fall behind the cases in developed countries,such as Europe,America,Japan and South Korea,on both practical application and theoretical research.Most of the domestic cases only imitate the shape of cases in other countries without analysing the design ideas and technical background deeply.This paper collects a series of domestic and international perforated metal skin buildings,and summarizes the types and installation methods of perforated metal,in order to open designers’ thinking of perforated metal.Firstly,based on the features of the climate of Tianjin,this paper investigates the advantages and disadvantages of the application of perforated metal skin in cold region.Through the study of the art museum in the Tianjin Chengjian University,attracts the lighting environment factors of the perforated metal skin application through computer simulation,such as the influence of indoor daylight and the heat gain,caused by different forms of windows,different thickness of perforated metal.Though these works,some proposes to the design of perforated metal are given.Secondly,parametric design is introduced in this passage through MATLAB programing,from the daylight factor distribution of the indoor points to calculate the rate of holes on the perforated metal,which is a quantitative guidance of the design of perforated metal.Finally,automatic control technology is introduced to improve the adjustable perforated metal integrated with photo-voltage system and intelligence control,for improving the utilization of natural light.The achievements in this research will deepen the designers’ understanding of the physical meaning and aesthetic significance of the perforated metal,having a positive impact to the design of perforated metal and indoor daylighting levels.
