The Structure,Features And Evolution Of The Image Of Chongqing Yuzhong Peninsula

As globalization accelerates,many cities in China tend to lose respective features in cityscapes.To find the way to maintain their regional characteristics has become a common concern of domestic urban planning disciplines and related subjects.The urban form mainly includes two types: the tangible one and the intangible one.When the form is felt by citizens,urban image emerges.This image can be explained by icons and words.This paper mainly studies the unique city images by combing the unique image factors and image elements.Through planning and design,the factors and elements are more visible,thus highlighting the characteristics of the city.Analyzing the evolution of the unique urban structure and characteristics of the city makes it easier to understand the characteristics of Chongqing,providing information and theoretical reference for current urban design.This paper studies Chongqing Yuzhong Peninsula(focusing on the east part of ShihuangTunnel).Following the procedure of “access-classification-extraction-analysis”,it tries to finds out the structure and features of Chongqing image in the past.As to the modern image,a sociological survey by questionnaire and cognitive map is used.(1)The ancient period: through the research of historical books and poetries.In the early stage,because of the poverty of data,the image features were fuzzy.When it comes to Ming and Qing Dynasties,as the skill of graphics improved and literature becomes rich,the image features got clearer.In general,the image features of ancient times are like what are written in the books: after Yangtze River and Jialing River converge,the water flows to the southeast and seen from above,it is like a Chinese character “?”;the city lies along the river,people cut through the solid rocks to build cities;in a city,nine gates open while eight closed,and seen from above,the picture is like Protective Talisman Charts;roads in a city twist and turn,some are wide while some narrow;business blocks and residential buildings interlace with one another.(2)The modern period: through the research of historical books and poetries.As the wartime capital,this objectively promoted the rapid development of the city.The literature material is thus very rich,vividly depicting the image features of Chongqing.Generally speaking,the image features of modern times are : where Yangtze River and Jialing River conjure,water blasts the bank;cities are built near cliffs,with uneven city walls;distribution pattern of the gates are changed;the number of wharfs increases and functions are more specific;paved roads are narrow and steep;multistoried residential buildings can be seen and trees make a pleasant shade.(3)The Contemporary: through a sociological survey by questionnaire and cognitive map.This paper analyzes the features of urban image through two levels of impression and evaluation.Impression degree: the impression of landscape pattern,city outline,bridges and modern architecture are better;park and node are more general;streets,historic buildings and cultural landscape areas are poor.Assessment degree: the impression of landscape pattern,city outline,bridges and modern architecture are better;park and cultural landscape areas are more general;node streets and historic buildings are poor.On this basis,this paper uses GIS to draw the ancient,modern and contemporary elements of urban image and city image map,and analyzes of the evolution of unique urban image and its influencing factors.The unique urban image factors: landscape pattern,city outline,wharf,street,architecture,park,bridges,node and cultural landscape area.These nine types of image factors are the focus of the current urban characteristics.Finally,in this paper,through the extraction of the image elements of city features and the construction of three levels of city's elements,it tries to provide a reference for urban characteristics.
