The Research For Public Space Design Of City Youth Hostel Based On User's Needs

With the development of tourism economy and diversity of travelling,youth hostels,differentiating themselves with international accommodation chain of general hotel standards,attract a large number of young tourists by their unique public space.There is warm and relaxing atmosphere,which is hard to see in the general hotels.Youth hostels also have been developed in China for more than 10 years,and now have become the first choice of young travelers.They are well known as "Travelers' home on the road".Youth hostel's public space reflects its spiritual culture,therefore it is the most important part of the design to highlight its theme and competitiveness.This paper is to study the public space design of urban youth hostel,and the article is divided into five chapters.Chapter one is to establish the main structure of this paper.It gives the background and significance of this research,and also introduces research objects,content and methods.Chapter two elaborates the development,classification of the youth hostel,distinguishes it from other kinds of hotels,emphasizes the uniqueness of its public space,and introduces the related theories used in this paper.On the basis of the theoretical research,the third chapter summarizes the characteristics of the urban youth hostels and the attributes of the youth hostels' public space.In the fourth chapter,several outstanding urban youth hostels in Chengdu are selected as the typical case to study.Through the result of questionnaires and interviews with different customers,this paper analyzes the public space design,public space usage and user satisfaction degree,try to find out the advantages and disadvantages of the public space design of these different.youth hostels.At last this chapter summarizes the common needs of youth hostel customers and the problems of urban youth hostels design,moreover,provides the optimization recommendations according to users' feedback.At the end of this paper,based on the previous theories study and case analysis,Chapter 5 summarizes the design techniques and strategies of urban youth hostel public space.
