Since the completion of the Three Gorges,the conditions of upper waterway of the Yangtze River have been greatly improved.The improvement of channel conditions promotes the trend of large ships.However,the region of Three Gorges reservoir still exist a lot of old docks,of which the design ship grade are relatively lower.The trend of large ships are beneficial to reduce transportation costs,improve economic efficiency,but it will also generate the phenomenon of berthing the ship grade out of design.So the Berthing Capacity Evaluation of some typical pier wharf is necessary.This paper mainly includes two aspects of research,first on the inland pier wharf's berthing dynamic characteristics,then based on ship dynamic characteristics evaluate the berthing capacity of wharf.On the Analysis of berthing dynamic characteristics,this paper selected a limestone export terminal in the upper waterway of the Yangtze River as a case study,analysis on the dynamic characteristics of pier wharf structure shown in the water level,velocity,angle and tonnage variable changing situations.In the berthing capacity assessment study,this paper selected a 2000 ton designed berths of pier wharf for case study,adopting the comprehensive analysis method to evaluate the berthing of 3000 ton ship,and then analyzed the Berthing Capacity of this berth.Based on the analysis above,the main conclusions are as follows:1)Through the analysis of the dynamic characteristics of the inland river pier wharf,the higher the water level,the larger the tonnage of the ship,the faster the ship's speed,and the larger the angle of the ship berthing,the more unfavorable to the pier structure.Under the situation of over-size berthing,the safety surplus of wharf structure can be increased and the berthing capacity can be improved by avoiding the high water level berthing,reducing load of ships,reducing the speed of ship and decreasing the angle of berthing.2)The stress of the structure is mainly concentrated at the connections of column and pile cap and the connections of pile and pile cap on the berthing side.The stress is also relatively higher at the connections of the beam and the column.The largest part of structural displacement of the structure is located at the top of the column at the side of the impact.In actual engineering applications,the structural bearing capacity of these areas should be emphasized.3)It is helpful to improve the safety performance of wharf structure by properly configuring the rubber fender material of soft material.4)When evaluate the berthing capacity of the structure by using the comprehensive evaluation,the impact force and the mooring force is the main control factors.It is useful to analyze the condition of waterway and calculate the variables(ship berthing speed,ship tonnage etc.)to make the evaluation for berthing capacity of inland river pier wharf.
