| For the tourist industry,souvenirs represent a significant source of income and positive publicity.The development of souvenir manufacturing may alleviate unemployment,generate income for local people,and increase life quality.The manufacture of souvenirs enhances the local economy and,at the same time,highlights cultural and natural hotspots.In recent years,the tourist industry of the Jilin province has enjoyed a steady growth.However,research and development of the souvenir design has been disregarded.Low quality products without cultural connotations and innovation consciousness flood the market.In addition to neglecting consumer demands,such low-end products project a negative image of the quality of the tourist destination and fail to take advantage of word-of-mouth advertisement.Improving the quality of souvenirs in the Jilin province should therefore be a priority for its tourist industry.This thesis researches potential innovative designs and design principles for Korean ethnic handicraft souvenirs based on the characteristics of the Korean culture within the Jilin province.This thesis is divided into four parts.The first part provides an introduction to the relevant academic literature and concepts.The second chapter combines an overview of current designs of Korean ethnic handicraft souvenirs,the results of the present research,as well as an analysis of the flaws of the aforementioned designs.The third chapter illustrates consumer demands regarding Korean ethnical handicraft souvenirs,lays out souvenir design ideas,principles and methods,and proposes a theory for the creation of a product innovation strategy in the Jilin province.Finally,the fourth chapter exemplifies the design of an innovative Korean ethnical handicraft souvenir.Conceptualising innovative Korean ethnical handicraft souvenirs can both enhance the development of the tourist industry of the Jilin province and carry forward the important significance of the local Korean culture. |
