Comparative Research On The Regional Design And Development Of Hotel Architectures In Taiwan And Southern Fujian

The internationalization of business activities and tourism has brought unprecedented opportunities and challenges to hotel architectural design.As a driving force of urbanization,globalization also led to the internationalization of architectural culture and the convergence of urban spaces and forms.This paper is focused on how to stick to local architectural designs in the context of globalization to show the regional characteristics of architecture.The establishment of high-star hotels often comes with the expanding of international hotel brands,so is there any contradiction between the internationalization of the same hotel brand and the regionality of hotel architecture?Adopting comparative approach this paper explored the hotel architectures and their regional histories vertically in Taiwan and South Fujian and also analyzed the hotel architectural designs horizontally in the two regions.The vertical comparison was conducted according to the timeline which was divided into four periods,namely the early statehood,after the reform and opening up,the 1990 s and after 2000,while the horizontal comparison was conducted according to the type and functions of the hotel,based on which this paper discussed the similarities and differences between the hotel architectures in the two regions from different angles and analyzed the factors that affect the regional designs of hotels.It was found that the regional characteristics of the two types of hotel architectures are slightly different.The first is resort hotels whose design aims to make the architecture better adapt to local climate,landform,natural resources and cultural environment.The second is hotels near urban center,where it provides natural conditions with relatively less differences,so the regional design of hotels here is more focused on humanistic thoughts and local lifestyle which are restricted by factors like economic conditions,geographic location and design codes,etc.Finally this paper proposed the strategies for and prospects of regional design and humanized lifestyle design.
