Studies On Hai-Ho Conservancy Board’s Exploitation And Construction Process On Urban Costal Area Of Hai-Ho In Early Modern Times,Tientsin

The urban construction of Tientsin in early modern times centers on the newly-built urban area along Hai-Ho,which boosts rapidly with the convenience of water transportation built along the river.However,the fundamental issue of urban construction lies in the utilization and development of land.The Nine Concessions that built along the Hai-Ho sets a paradigm of the urban development of Tientsin in early modern times by land exploitation and the process of development,from expanding the area of old Tientsin City,to the corresponding infrastructure construction motivating the urban planning and development of Tientsin in early modern times as well.Established in 1897,Hai-Ho Conservancy Commission serves as China’s first professional institute of channel dredging and irrigation works.Since the Commission was renamed by Hai-Ho Conservancy Board in 1912,it made a great contribution of urban construction of Tientsin in the early modern times,especially in the process of land exploitation.On one hand,the Board introduces modernized way of dredging and irrigation technique to govern the Hai-Ho,on the other hand,the mud that sucked from the river is pumped directly into the pit,converting waste land into highly valuable developable land.The moment accelerates the pace of urban modernization of Tientsin in early modern times,it also makes the way of the following urban construction process.The dissertation mainly focuses on Hai-ho by introducing the utilization and development through the source of Hai-Ho’s river system firstly.Secondly,describe the methodology and strategy in channel dredging and governing process through the establishment and function of Hai-Ho Conservancy Board.Thirdly,analyze the development process of west and east area of land along Hai-Ho one by one with the introduction of planning and scheming for land filling project.Then paraphrase the construction process of Tientsin in early modern times through function of land,infrastructure construction and the variety of value of land on the basis of accomplishment of land filling project.Finally,offer reference to urban planning and land development of Tientsin in the future through summary.
