A Behavior Study On Homestay Accommodation Reuse In Traditional Construction System

Rural recreation and tourism industry has become a significant part of the contemporary social development of rural revival in China.The traditional rural settlement's morphology and dwellings as its important resource,their conservation,reuse or modernization should be based on traditional construction system.Non-standard,non-franchised development of accommodation,affected by the leisure and experience trend of tourism activities,results in homestay-like accommodation,that villagers utilize unoccupied spaces to provide lodge for tourists like their counterparts in many developed countries do,shaping a very global trend.Therefore,homestay accommodation rehabilitation based on traditional construction system is of great significance to both rural revival and accommodation development which has a dual property as living and lodging,while providing a unique experience of non-everyday and home-like feeling.The existing dwellings' reuse is the most common situation.There is much dissatisfaction between the host family and alien guests during their use of the homestay now,such as privacy interference,etc.that affect the operation or experience of both sides.Space problems,that issues above attribute to,can be analyzed to propose solutions in the field of architecture.In the past,the locals' daily routine and behaviors were totally compatible with the space of vernacular dwelling.After the introduction of homestay accommodation activities,due to the differences between two kinds of behavior,some serious spatial incompatibility emerges between the new behavior patterns and the space of vernacular dwelling,leading to this dissatisfaction.In this paper,space problems are thereupon analyzed from the angle of behavior,Tumucuo,A Vernacular Housing Unit in the Northeast of Fujian as the object of study.This paper mainly consists of three parts.Firstly,the spatial characteristics of Tumucuo and activities in the traditional country villages the characteristics of activities involving the lodgers' behavior pattern and the public interpersonal communications in the contemporary homestay accommodation are analyzed respectively through the traditional locals' activities and from the social organization of the rural recreation and tourism activities.Secondly,focusing on the public communal spaces for communications,the spatial incompatibility between Tumucuo and the activities of the homestay accommodation is concluded through comparing the both above.Finally,the programming from the angle of behavior with space integration in the preliminary planning is proposed as an essential strategy for the spatial problems through analyzing typical examples.
