With the evolution of Beijing's Old City renewal, from big-scale renewal model to mico-scale and gradual model, many historical districts have been renovated. However, with the further renewal, some areas with high market value, good condition and clear property rights received priority status to be renovated, and other areas with low market value, poor condition and ambiguous property rights have been overlooked.Taking this as the breakthrough point, this thesis sums up current mico-renewal methods of Old City, combinesing with the case of reconstruction practice in Qianmen distict, expecting to explore a kind of micro-reconstruction design methods, that could be more suitable for the future development and renewal in the Old City distict. The thesis is divided into five parts:The first chapter introduces the background of the old city renewal in Beijing, defineing the related research concepts. In addition,it combs city renewal theories both domestic and foreign, and finally expatiates on the significance, purpose, methods and framework of the research. The second chapter sums up the history of old city renewal in Beijing, analyzes the present situation and problems of Beijing's old city renewal based on the analysis of the theory and case study of micro-reconstruction.The third and fourth chapter respectively dicusses the micro-reconstruction design strategies and principles in Hutong and Sihe countyards, suming up the new design method of micro-reconstruction,which is more suitable for the development of the old city in the future. The fifth chapter takes the renewal practice in Qianmen Caochang district as an example, combing existing problems and renewal strategies through data research and building evaluation, then selecting the typical courtyards and allies for micro-reconstruction design, finally achieveing three renewal goals: to protect the history and culture;to build progressive cycle models of renewal methods;to achieve the optimal reconstruction design with actively being concerned about the contradictions and problems among government, residents and developers in the renewal.
