The historical and cultural conservation area in Fuchengmen inner street is an important part of Beijing historical and cultural conservation area.It is the epitome of the old city of Beijing,carrying a strong historical information of urban development.With the change of modern transportation mode and the increase of people's demand for entertainment,the public space of the historical and cultural protection area in Fuchengmen inner street gradually can not meet the needs of its users.Under the premise of protecting the historical style of the block and combining with the needs of the users,take appropriate remediation to improve the vitality of its public space,which is the practical significance of this study.Based on the literature review and the field investigation,this paper makes a study on the historical evolution and the characteristics of public space in Fuchengmen avenue.This paper analyzes the present situation of the public space of the block from the aspects of the overall layout,traffic organization,spatial scale,spatial interface and spatial detail.Do the survey of the use of public space in the block by observing and issuing questionnaires.And analyze the activities and the use demand of the various types of users in the public space of the historical and cultural conservation area in Fuchengmen inner street,which provides the basis for the promotion of space quality.At last,according to the current situation and the characteristics of the block,the renewal and improvement strategies of the public space of the district are put forward from two aspects: the overall organization and the micro image elements.
