The Design And Research Of A PTC Heater Based On Product Semantics

Product Semantics is the study of the symbol of man–made form in using context,and how to apply the knowledge in Industrial Design.This paper discourses the study from its production,development,content structure,conveyance types and other aspects in brief.Then discusses the basic composition of Product Semantics: shape,color and texture semantics.Based on the research results of domestic and foreign scholars,the author proposed a new constitution of the Product Semantics' expression elements: functional semantics,operational semantics,aesthetic and intuitive semantics,symbolism and metaphor semantics,narrative semantics.Then pointed out that the proposal was both inherited and innovative,consistency of the composition of Product Semantics and consistent with the user needs.Next,some detailed examples which were similar to the study object were used to clarify the five fundamental semantics.PTC heater is a device of which the heating element is PTC thermistor.In this paper,a PTC heater was designed basing on Product Semantics.At first,a brief introduction of the features and advantages of the PTC heater was made.Then the PTC heater design research model based on product semantics is established to guide user survey.After the findings gained from the user survey were placed in order,they were equivalently transformed into semantic adjectives which can be used to guide the design of the PTC heater.These semantic adjectives are analyzed in the perspective of Product Semantics and the results are used to guide the design of the PTC heater until which is completed.Some analysis was made from the perspective of product semantics and users' needs.The results showed that the design of the PTC heater meets the requirements of product semantics and users' requirements.The innovation of this paper is the proposition of a new composition of Product Semantics' contents.Basing on the basic theory of Product Semantics and combining modern design process,the design model from user needs to the final product was established.At last,a PTC heater which meets Product Semantics requirements and user needs was designed.At the same time,the ways of using Product Semantics was extended.
