The Comprehensive Research Of Fairyland For Buddha In Summer Palace

Fairyland for buddha complex,built in Qianlong Dynasty,sits on the middle axis of the Longevity Hill ‘north side in Beijing Summer Palace,and it’s a group of Tibetan Buddhism complex with a chinese and tibetan style.The whole complex is composed of the north part of Han style Buddhist temples and the south part of “Four Great Regions”.Not only had Fairyland for Buddha witnessed the nationality policy that the Qing dynasty propagated the Tibetan Buddhism for the purpose of promoting national solidarity,but also offered a significant site for the ritual hold for blessing the empress dowager who was the emperor Qianlong’ mother.But unfortunately In 1860 the complex was destroyed by Anglo-French Allied Force.Fettered by economic decline and the political situation,it was until the Guangxu Dynasty when Qingyiyuan was rebuilt that the whole palace had maintained in ruins.For placing the statue of Buddhas of Three Periods,a Single eaves jehiel mountain halls was constructed on the site of Xiangyan Zongyin Pavilion witch had been the major architecture of Four Great Regions,and the building of Jambudvipa was also rebuilt in the form of mountain gate in the Han style.After 1949 Four Great Regions and Cifu archway were restored and until now the site of Fairyland for buddha hall,side pavilions and side archways remain in ruins.By sorting and analyzing the relevant archives & documents and by surveying and mapping the physical remains,I have made the following research: First I combed the historical process from 1750 to 2000,and concluded that the beginning and finishing time of construction were earlier than that of Puning Temple in Chengde.Besides by comparing with the old photos,I found the mistakes about the color of the building made in the process of repairing the whole complex.Second referring to the analysis of the Samye Imitated as a prototype and the description on the Mandala from <Tripitaka Sutra>,I expounded the relationship between the location and image of the buildings in the tibetan part and the Cosmic schema of The world of Buddha defined by the Mandala.Third detailedly I compared with the similarities and differences between the layout and the form of Fairyland for Buddha and Puning Temple in Chengde,and analyzed the Internal causes of the phenomenon.Finally on the basis of Restoration Research on Fairyland for buddha complex in Qianlong Dynasty,I make a plan for the conservation and exhibition about the site.This subject not only deepens the understand about the history and value of Summer Palace,but also offers the important foundation for the modern Heritage protection and presentation.
