A Preliminary Study On Therapeutic Landscape Design For Inpatient Department

Nowadays,human being is very aware of the importance of health.A better healing landscape design is actually very helpful to physical and mental health of human lives.Landscape not only possesses function of city image but also taking responsibilities of health benefit in many aspects.Therefore,if landscape design can focus on the integration of medical knowledge,it would then deliver its healing benefit to patients that achieve physical and mental health as well as the purpose of increasing happiness.Consequently,landscape design for a hospital would not only consider the basic needs of patients but also satisfy their psychological and social needs.In general,hospital is a serving environment for specific people.Its environmental landscape regarded as public landscape is also prior to fit their special needs.In fact,inpatient department occupies higher percentage of functions of most hospitals.Therefore a successful landscape design affects directly to patients and medical staffs' physical and mental health.Good out door healing environment of an inpatient department can alter patients'impression to the hospital.And it also provides an environment for leading off bad emotion as well as to relief tense relations between patients and medical staffs which directs better development for hospitals.As a result,to create a safe and comfortable healing landscape design could be very crucial when considering human-centered design approach to hospital.This paper aims to provide conceptual guideline of healing landscape design for hospitals in China.And using a hospital landscape design as example to demonstrate future direction of the design and development for hospital is the goal of this design research.Key design approaches are based on:(1)analysis of environmental psychology and behavior to the needs of healing landscape for patients,visitors and medical staffs.Through investigating their relations,it identifies necessary functions of healing landscape design.(2)systematic investigations to outdoor healing landscape design of inpatient department,starting up from hardware and software aspects to find its basic composing elements to integrate conceptual design guideline and method for healing landscape.(3)implementations of a real hospital landscape design case as model example for healing landscape design principles.
