The diesel locomotive can not be obsolete for the time being because of its specificity. With the increase of the railway speed, development of the quasi-high speed diesel locomotive has become the inevitable trend. This paper focuses on the AC drive system of diesel locomotive and its control system, and proposes a electric drive method of quasi high speed diesel locomotive which is used for transport personnel and equipment. It has practical significance to improve the efficiency of railway maintenance and reliability of locomotive.Firstly, according to the actual typical traction weight, the ramp of the rail and other factors, the expected traction requirements are put forward, and then the paper calculates the locomotive power, traction force and other parameters. For the deficiencies of TY05 locomotive which is made by Taiyuan locomotive factory, some solutions of the problems are proposed.Secondly, the paper studies the control system of diesel generating set. Due to the nonlinearity and large inertia of the diesel engine, a fuzzy self-tuning PID speed regulator which is suitable for diesel engine is proposed. The speed regulation model and the excitation model are establish based on Matlab. The simulation results show that fuzzy self-tuning PID controller can achieve better effect, and the excitation control system is able to stabilize the output voltage of the generator whether in the start-up phase or the load change stage.Finally, the paper studies the system of traction motor. According to the traction characteristics of the locomotive, different direct torque control schemes are adopted at different speeds. The quasi circular flux track scheme is adopted in the low speed area, the eighteen-angles flux track scheme is adopted in the high speed area. In addition, the current limiting measure is proposed for the problem of very large motor starting current. The simulation results show that the current limiting measure are effective in reducing the stator current at start-up phase. Besides, the eighteen-angles flux track scheme has lower current harmonic, and the control effect of the motor is improved.
