A Preliminary Study On Concession Garden And Green Space Of Hankou

Hankow which is the latest formed town of Wuhan, relying on excellent port condition, had become the most important commercial town in interior China rapidly. It’s the transportation hub of central China. The western capitalism nations had wanted invade to the Hankow already a long time. From 1861 to 1898, there had been five countries established concessions in Hankow. After the establishment of the concession, new landscape with Western powers together entered into the concession of Hankou. landscape in Hankow has experienced the evolution from the traditional style to the modern style.The subject of this paper is Hankow concession garden and green space. Through the method of study on literature, field investigation, comparative analysis,inductive-deduction, theoretical research and analysis, the paper uses multi-thinking access to review Hankou concession garden and green space. This article mainly includes Hankow Concessions Garden and Green Space General Situation, Concessions Garden and Green Space Construction Features,Concessions Garden and Green Space Case Analysis, and Concessions Garden and Green Space Effect and Utilization. The first part divides the Hankow concessions landscape into 4 stages: sprout period, development period, turbulent period, declining period, combining with synthetical society background such as the history evolution during the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic period,the development and construction of Hankow concession. The second part is combined with the artistic features of planning and site selection, layout and design style elements of concession landscape analysis. The third part selects various types of Hankow concession garden and green space works as cases study,detailed analysing its history, layout, artistic characteristics. The fourth part analyses the influence of Hankow concessions landscape to people and Hankow modern city landscape construction, and thinks about the value and significance of protection in today’s Wuhan protection.This paper is intended to restore the landscape history of Hankow concessions,reveal the evolution, fill some of the gaps in the history.
