As a new technology of airport surface surveillance, the Multilateration(MLAT) with the high positioning accuracy, high update rate and low cost has become a good choice for the airports. Based on the MLAT system on Beijing Capital International Airport, the location accuracy and the effects of geometrical factors on the positioning accuracy has been researched on this dissertation.First of all, on the basis of studying the TDOA principle of MLAT system, the Chan algorithm and Taylor algorithm were introduced briefly as a representative example to solve the positioning equation. Then, by simulating the GDOP contour maps, the factors that affecting the optimal positioning precision were analyzed. The experimental results show that changing the length of the baseline or the number of the base station could improve the performance of the MLAT system. Finally, taking the MLAT on Beijing Capital International Airport as an example, the positioning accuracy on the current layout of the case were assessed. Then the performance of the three airport runways was analyzed and the some plans of the distribution were presented to improve the surveillance performance.
