Overlarge Convention and Exhibition Centers, as a direct result of the rapidly advancing modern MICE industry, own unique and complex function system and space structure, which are superior to conventional ones in many ways and hence in turn marks the new era of the Convention and Exhibition buildings. As a multi-functional subsystem and an important component of the Overlarge Convention and Exhibition Centers, publicservice space readily provides a service place and platform for people of different categories and plays a key role in the sustainable development of the notion. Germany, as the world leading practitioner in the MICE industry, consistently strengthens its leading position by constructing state-of-the-art Convention and Exhibition Centers. In the past twenty years, with the expansion and new construction of a considerable number of largescale and high-end Convention and Exhibition Centers in Germany, comprehensive development of the public-service space and its corresponding infrastructure is emphasized, which means scientific methodologies along with outstanding merits of functionality configurations, spatial organization, and spatial quality are featured and comprehensive humane service as well as the multifaceted service framework is implemented, in that, all these advantages make the buildings excel among counterparts in the MICE industry and provide a significant reference for design and management of contemporary Overlarge Convention and Exhibition Centers.Through field work and interviews, this paper selected five largest and typical examples in Germany for specific study. Based on function characteristics and space configurations of Overlarge Convention and Exhibition Centers from the visitor point and a humane perspective, this study taking the public service space as the object, analysis of functional unit pattern, spatial organization pattern, and based upon case studies, research on general layout, system organization and space quality of the public-service space, thereby generalizing characteristics of German Overlarge Convention and Exhibition Centers as well as their advanced design concepts, mature experience and valuable methodologies, which is expected to provide rational reference for feasible design patterns and data, and greatly boost long-term development of the Overlarge Convention and Exhibition Centers and MICE as well as related industries.
