Private garden is the subsidiary garden space of buildings.The common form of the private garden consists of courtyard garden, balcony garden and roof garden. It meets the contemporary people pursuing the quality of life and is an increasingly popular form of garden. Plants are the main material of private garden. Weather private garden can achieve the practical, economic, aesthetic effect depends on the selection and configuration of garden plants. The domestic and foreign research of private garden plant configuration focuses on garden layout planning, planting design, special categorized plants garden, garden plant configuration and function etc.. The relative lack of research of private garden itself based on the characteristics of plant landscape makes the level of building uneven, some good and some bad. The rapidconstruction and promotion of private garden needs deep research of private garden plants landscaping.This paper chooses private garden plant configuration in Suzhou area as the research object and investigates garden style, plant species and communities, the landscape design way.The paper studies on plant landscape design of Suzhou private garden by observation, measurement, statistical analysis and other research methods. The writer investigates 2 seedling market and 21 private gardens which are about 7951 square meters in Suzhou. Survey results show that: plant categories with 28 families,40 genera and 49 species; the main characteristics and problems of private garden plants landscaping in Suzhou area is that designer focus on shrubs and groundcovers materials and give priority to the use of evergreen plants. They also take into account garden plants and ornamental and productive function.This research discusses garden plant landscaping differ from the general park and analysis plant landscape design principles and methods based on analyzing the particularity of the private garden in the environment, scale, space and other aspects. The writer take Chinese style-- the Suzhou waterfrontTsinghua 52 blocks of 107 private garden and American style--Suzhou Kunshan Merlion Yufeng villa 1188 blocks of private garden as private garden plant landscape design practice, and achieved satisfactory effect of plant landscape.The research main innovation: On the basis of the basic concepts and principles of plant landscape design,it discusses in details about the difference between private garden and the general green. It also emphatically analyzes the use of techniques and enrich the theory research of private garden.The author uses the observation investigation, measurement method and other research methods, to investigate the Suzhou nursery stock market and sample private garden plant landscape.The author also analyzes the different types and characteristics of private gardens in Suzhou and the preference of plant. The paper has certain guiding value to private garden construction in Suzhou and other regions.This study focuses on the design of plant landscape of villa courtyard private garden and does not describe the balcony garden, building indoor garden, and the interaction between plant and other facilities. The conclusion of this research is suitable for Suzhou private garden landscape design, but is notnecessarily fully applicable for other areas and has to be tested and further adjusted.
