A Study On Plant Landscape In Beijing Private Garden

Plant is an important landscape element of Chinese classical garden. With the development of Chinese classical garden, its plant landscape had gradually formed distinctive ethnic and unique cultural characteristics. Beijing Private Garden was the representative of Chinese classical private garden in northern China, its plant landscape was different from that of Jiangnan Private Garden, Royal Garden and Religious Garden, and had formed considerable regional and culture characteristics. The study of plant landscape therein is of great importance in protection, recovery Beijing Private Garden and the construction in modern landscape architecture.Based on field survey and literature search,35Beijing private gardens were investigated, including24gardens in old city and11gardens in Haidian district. Theses gardens were classified into spacious gardens, compact gardens and small gardens innovatively in the light of their layout features and the connection between garden and architecture in special. According to the field survey,5of these gardens were selected to do further research, these5gardens were better preserved and had more artistic value than others, including2spacious garden,2compact garden and1small garden. Their existing plants were mapped and the comparison of the plant species, planting forms and space constructions between these3types of garden were made. Finally, Plant landscape characteristics in Beijing Private Garden were analyzed, and suggestions on its protection and reconstruction and the enlightenment of modern plant landscape were proposed.
