Research For High-rise Residential Courtyard Spatial Openness

Courtyard Residential is not only the main form of Chinese traditional architecture, but also the ideal place for modern people in China. With the development of urbanization and the increase require of energy and land saving, high-rise residential has become a type of residential building that many people have to choose in modern time. However, high-rise building has its unavoidable defects. More and more people miss the form of traditional residence. High-rise courtyard residences appeared based on this background, many architects and property developers have also made a lot of exploration. However, due to the limitations inherent in the type of high-rise buildings, in addition to the effect of many complex factors, such as prices, market, policy and so on, a large number of built high-rise courtyard residences did not reflect the advantages that the "courtyard" should have. The purpose of this paper is to abstract some key features of the traditional courtyard space so that we can make them play a real role in improving the living environment.In this paper, on the basis of a lot of literature and cases, using the methods of Theoretical and Empirical, Analysis and Synthesis, the spatial characteristics of traditional courtyard space, including function multiple, spatial cohesion and appropriate openness are abstracted; Compared to the traditional courtyard space, new features of modern high-rise courtyard space and the characteristics of high-rise residential courtyard space in function, space layout and interface enclosing are summarized, and proposing the ―propriate openness‖ is the key to guarantee the basic properties of high-rise residential courtyard.Based on the content described above, the author conducts a systematic study in the spatial openness of high-rise residential courtyard. First of all, the study sample is determined by combing the literature and research data; then Visibility Ratio(I) as a calculation model for the spatial openness of high-rise residential courtyard is proposed based on the literature research,so that the objectivity assessment of the openness degree based on quantitative methods is completed; next, the subjective assessment of the openness degree which is based on the qualitative methods is solved by using questionnaire survey method; finally, comparing and analyzing two assessed values of the sample, the evaluation reference value of the high-rise residential courtyard spatial openness degree is obtained, thus a series of important conclusions are formed.
