With the development of society and economy, As the main group of social development, adult population is facing more and more pressure of work and life; At the same time, demographic data based on population development report shows that the number of elderly population significantly increasing trend in our country, this in turn indicates that we will enter an aging society. Adults and the elderly population every day have a variety of activities to do such as work, shopping, leisure, exercise, etc, these activities occupy a large part of their lives, so research on two types of group activities is particularly necessary. And the built environment as a human activity and travel most closely elements,explore the two types of group activity and the impact of differences in travel has a great practical significance.In this paper, took the recent rapid development of large-scale urban fringe settlements as case, took work, shopping, leisure and exercise activities for adults and the elderly population as research point; From the point-installations distribution, lines-travel route, surface-land use, domain-space features four dimensions begin; Carried out settlements on internal and external build environment to two types of group travel activities in-depth studies, to determine two of the groups their activities and travel demand and the impact of the characteristics of the relationship between the built environment. The study found that there is widespread differences between adults and the elderly population group activities characteristic, adult group activities more widely distributed and diverse way to travel, but a lower frequency; The elderly population’s venue mostly in inside settlements and the main way to travel mostly on foot, but tend to have higher frequency; The affect of the relationship between two kinds of community activities and travel of the built environment are not consistent, and the different activities exhibit different difference, but basically related to one or more point of facilities and the quality of the environment, road network density, topology depth, land use, spatial horizon, dynamic interface and other factors.Finally, toward two types of groups’ activities characteristics and demand propose the construction of two types of group activities as much as possible to meet the travel needs of the built environment and recommend measures, in order to maximize the rational use of the built environment, then provide some ideas and methods to create livable and harmonious settlements.
