Truck crane telescopic boom, as one of the most important parts for automobile crane, has some unique characteristics, such as complex structure, large number of parts, high technology content, the leading role of product performance etc. So, its design cycle is long, that seriously affects the speed onto the market of the products. If a series of products are formed by the use of parametric modeling and finite element analysis, the design cycle can be shortened, so as to improve the reliability and safety of the product.Based on the serial design of telescopic boom developed by BEIJING JINGCHENG HEAVY INDUSTRY CO., LTD., the parametric modeling finite element analysis of the serial telescopic boom is studied. The main research content includes following aspects:(1) The 3D model and motion mechanism of five telescopic arm modeling is accomplished with the layout function and the motion skeleton in Pro/E. The model is based on the motion mechanism, the movement mechanism of parameters driven by simple geometric elements, such as point, line and plane. The modeling and series parameter design of truck crane telescopic boom is completed by modifying, adding and deleting parameters, automatically update the size.(2) From taken a group of product data as an example, the practicality and reliability of the modeling and the series parameter design is verified.(3) With help of seamless connection interface with ANSYS Workbench and Pro/E, the parameters of 3D model and finite element model are correlated with each other. The reasonable, effective and fast design method of parametric modeling and finite element analysis is explored. It is a method that the truck crane telescopic boom for different boom length, different section and different load conditions are placed into the same finite element analysis, and the same data is shared, such as model, material and meshing etc.(4) Moreover rationality and reliability of the method is tested by the comparison of test results and simulation data. The results of thesis play an important role, which should reduce the enterprise in R & D manpower and resources, and improve the speed of products to the market, and will have prosperous future in industrial applications.
