The property and function of the telescopic boom, which is the main load-carrying component of a crane, not only defines its safety in it's real practice but also a key fact in deciding the whole quality of the crane and its economic cost. Thereby fast design a lightest and feasible telescopic boom is a pressing must for the development of the telescopic crane industry.By studying the telescopic boom's inner structure, the telescopic boom can simplified into two optimized model ( derricking mechanism three-hinge position optimizing and its size optimizing ) . This paper use artificial intelligence PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization),and functional intensity finite element optimizing tools, using Visual C++ 6.0 software in programming a highly visual telescopic boom optimizing designing software with a friendly interface.1. The Particle Swarm Optimization algorithmGet the derricking mechanism three-hinge position optimization problem's object function and optimization variables by analyzing the load-carrying of a crane's derricking mechanism. Design a subprogram for derricking mechanism three-hinge position optimization, according to the principle of the PSO algorithm handling the multi-Objective optimization problem. Not only can we accurately and fast use the program, but can endow the whole program with a better commonality as well, because they share the same basic load-carrying principles.2. The finite element optimizing designIt uses the finite element parametric design language (APDL) of the powerful analysis software ANSYS, to program the parametric telescopic boom finite element model command stream files,and using the ANSYS optimizing function module to optimize the size of the telescopic boom.3. Developing a telescopic boom CAD softwareIt uses Visual C++6.0 as its development tool to program a full functional telescopic boom CAD software with a friendly interface.
