With the speeding up of the modernization, new rural construction becomes a hot topic in our country. But as the material basis of new countryside, the construction quantity and demands for rural residence is still growing. Meanwhile, the rapid urbanization increased the degree of aging of the rural population, the elderly have become the subject of rural residential housing. However, due to factors such as the limited nature of rural development and farmers' cognitive limitations, the following problems have been produced in the process of rural residential building, such as the blind pursuit of formal beauty, ignore the regional environment, and lack of attention to the elderly. Therefore, it is an urgent need to explore the comfortable living environment for the elderly in the rural areas in southern Liaoning Province.This paper takes the rural residential area in southern Liaoning Province as the research object. Through the field survey of twenty rural residences, the problems and development trend of the rural residential area in the southern Liaoning Province are summarized in the following aspects, such as the construction situation of the residence, the characteristics of interior space and the life style of rural households. Then, based on the development trend of the elderly in the rural family structure to conclude the living types of the family of the southern parts of Liaoning Province. And according to the specific needs of each type, to explore the suitable development design patterns. And according to the actual situation of the typical case, according to the principle of safety, comfort, economy, energy saving and beautiful appearance, to put forward an optimized design scheme.
