| In modern manufacturing companies, it’s very hard to achieve line balancing completely due to the variations of processing time in each process of the line. If we want to improve productivity, we must find the bottlenecks in the production line. For the bottleneck processes, we need to optimize time and/or procedure, adjust the production line work load of each process, so that the processing time for every work station is almost equal. Thus we can eliminate wastes; maximize the production efficiency. That is the production line balancing problem.This thesis takes the existing production lines of ECU department from the VED Division of Continental Automotive systems as the object of the study. It focuses on the balance of the production line and aims to provide theoretical guidance and practical experience to solve the line balancing problems.The thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter introduces the background of the research, and reviews to the extensive literature on the analysis of production line balancing research, points out its advantages and disadvantages of different line-balancing methods. Furthermore improvements executed based on them. Chapter V uses SIMUL8 simulation software for the balance of the previous simulation analysis, and presents evaluation of the improvement.
