A Study Of Contract-based Construction Quality Management

Since 1980 s, quality issues have attracted a great deal of attention in China. However, project quality is still a serious problem. As a result, the research of how to improve project quality has very important meanings. Because the project quality should be undertaken in the control of construction contract, the primary goal of this article, in the contract’s view, is to investigate the influences of construction quality based on the quality provisions in the contract.Firstly, the concept, features and theories of construction quality are given in this paper. Then the provisions related to the quality management in <The Construction Contract(model version, 2013)> and < Conditions of Contract for Construction(FIDIC1999 version) > have been researched deeply based on many literatures. After that, in order to build a relationship between the quality management and construction contract, the functions of construction contract in project quality management have been summarized.The chief aim of this paper is to discuss the influences of construction quality based on the quality provisions in <The Construction Contract(model version, 2013)>. Moreover, this article also quoted some items from the <construction contract conditions(FIDIC1999 version)> in order to compare the differences between the two versions. Several modules have been built to obtain the results more clearly. Based on the analysis of the previous comparison, the differences between domestic contracts and the international fully-fledged contracts were found.The method used in this study to judge the influence of contract provisions to construction quality is knows as questionnaire survey. According to the differences between the two versions, the survey adopting the 5 stages Likert form was used to analyze views from the controllers in the field of construction. According to the survey results, some revision suggestion for quality provisions were proposed based on <2013 Construction project contract(Model text) of China>, which have been defined in the special provisions of the contract.
