Myxobacteria are a group of gram-negative bacteria which can glide and produce abundant bioactive substances.Study on the ecological function and the population structure of myxobacteria has important significance to understand the role of myxobacteria in natural environment and for the mining and utilization of the myxobacterium resources in the future. In this study, the diversity and community structure of myxobacteria in Ordos,Uhai, and Baryannur of western Inner Mongolia were researched by the PCR-DGGE technology.Myxobacterial diversity analysis showed that in the three regions of western Inner Mongolia, myxobacterial diversity of Wuhai area was the most abundant and that of Bayinnaoer and Ordos was the second and third.Their average richness was 159.4286,129.6000,and 64.0435 respectively.Myxobacteria in Ordos were mainly composed of two known species,Anaeromyxobacter and Myxococcus, and some uncultured species.Myxobacteria in Wuhai were mainly composed of three known species.Anaeromyxobacter,Archanglum, and Myxococcus, and some uncultured species.Myxobacteria in Bayinnaoer were mainly composed of two known species,Anaeromyxobacter and Myxococcus, and some uncultured species. In the soil samples of the three regions, myxobacteria of aeolian soil, castanozem, and beach soil of yellow river were mainly Myxococcus.Myxobacteria of gray desery soil,castano-cinnamon,and solonchak were mainly Anaeromyxobacter.Myxobacteria of fluvo-aquic soil were mainly the uncultured species. For the samples belonging to the same soil type, but different utilization methods, myxobacteria of the samples from arable land were mainly Myxococcus.Myxobacteria of the samples from grass land, wood land, and the unused land were mainly Anaeromyxobacter. This study provided the basis for the in-depth study on the myxobacterial resources in the three regions of western Inner Mongolia.
