Discussion On The Establishment Of Zigong City And The Salt Industry In Sichuan During The Anti-Japanese War

With current literature and documents, this paper discusses the cause and process of the establishment of Zigong, Sichuan, municipal construction and the salt industry development during the Anti-Japanese War, and thus reveals the inner development regularity and characteristics of Zigong(the ancient city of salt industry in China) under the background that “the city is thrived by the salt” and “the salt is propelled by the city”.This paper has seven parts, more than 50,000 words. The first part is the introduction, which discusses briefly academic circle research status towards Zigong during the Anti-Japanese War and the research significance of this topic. The second part analyzes the main reason why Zigong is established on the eve of the Anti-Japanese War from the home front construction during the Anti-Japanese War, administrative management, economic development and social calls. The third part expounds the brief process that Zigong is established during the Anti-Japanese War, including the preparatory work and the composition of such agencies as the municipal government and city council after the establishment. The fourth part discusses main accomplishment achieved by the municipal construction from these aspects as the municipal area, street construction, municipal construction and health etc. The fifth part analyzes the progress achieved by the salt industry(the pillar industry of Zigong economy) from the production and trade. The sixth part mainly discusses the concrete embodiment of the salt industry culture in such aspects as the newspaper, education and diet during the war time and basic characteristics of salt city culture. Finally, from the mutual promotion and mutual transformation of the city and resources, this paper illustrates the interaction between the salt industry development and the Zigong establishment during the Anti-Japanese War.Based on the systematic discussion about the above-mentioned seven parts, following conclusions are drawn: 1.Zigong is established under special historical conditions; 2.Zigong establishment, to a certain extent, improves the local administrative institutions; 3.Zigong establishment promotes the municipal construction and meanwhile propels the local industry, especially, the salt industry development.
