Development of career is not only important for person, but also for the organization. From overseas review, most of them focused on the hotel general managers,the middle managers that are department managers who play an important roles in the organizations have been ignored.This article studied on the department managers from high-star hotel of Guangzhou to know more about their development of career by questionnaires and interviews. And then coded the data from the interviews by the grounded theory, it can be divided to three stages. First, broke up all data, it called open coding; second, it named axial coding and just reintegration the data; the last one was choosing the main category of this article, named selective coding.Conclusion is that it needs about eight years which one can be grown up from waiter to department manager. All process can be divided to three stages: the formation of career anchor that is the stage of choosing an occupation; a period of becoming employed and finding a niche; the development of individual career. At the same time, the ambitions, social value, organizational policy, a powerful example,tutors’ experiences and uncontrollable opportunities will make a different result, like promotion, keep unchanged and fall to the bottom.
