The natural gas as a clean energy consumption growing rapidly. However, the growth of the production cannot keep pace with the growth of consumption demand. Coal-based substitute natural gas(SNG) is seemed as a remedy to cure this modern energy crisis. Our country is rich in coal reserves at the third place of the word, but the surplus of natural gas is disappeared. It is clear that a comprehensive analysis of energy consumption, economic and environmental emissions has importantly theoretical and practical significance.Firstly, based on the life cycle theory, this paper selects typical SNG project as the background, builds and simulates its path to compare with other competitive alternative paths according to the usage of cooking, steaming and power production from the three aspects of energy consumption, economic and environmental emissions. Specifically, the energy consumption evaluation relies on the GREET.After that, the results use the entropy weight method to standardization, empowerment and arrangement. According to 3E evaluation analysis, the conclusion is that coal-based gas boiler path is better than coal fire boiler in the process of the utilization of steam; induction cooking path is better than gas stove path in the cooking process; SNG path is much better than coal-fired power generation in the process of electricity generation.According to entropy weight method, gas-fired boiler is much more efficient than other competitive alternative paths. All the works give some scientific basis such as we should adopt the way of centralized power as much as possible instead of decentralization. we should encourage technology innovation and further optimization of SNG to reduce the economic cost, energy consumption and further. SNG as forms of peak shaving type which is not sustainable. We should vigorously develop other environmental friendly energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, hydrogen energy.
