Study On The Province Difference Of Urbanization Efficiency And Growth Patterns In China

How to improve the quality of urbanization has been a widely studied issue. Highlighting efficiency, low consumption and focusing on new urbanization strategy, urbanization efficiency and growth pattern, both as new issues, is discussed under such a background.From population, economy, space and society perspective, this paper analyzes the urbanization efficiency of 279 cities in China in a period from 2002 to 2012, and studies its temporal and spatial differences, on the basis of literature review. Growth patterns are studied through engine mechanism and spatial pattern. Finally, conclusions are derived from the study results.First, China’s low level urbanization efficiency is widely spread, temporally and spatially. Reasons contribute to this fact include the weakening of policy, the loss of arrangement and the over-relying on government documents. A smart urbanization growth way will be helpful to change the situation.Second, China has diversified urbanization growth patterns. In different city groups sharing the same urbanization efficiency, industrial structure plays different roles from city to city, which in a retrospect way explains the regional urbanization efficiency difference. The study based on optimal urbanization scale and urbanization shape shows that, grouping effect is the key factor determining urbanization scale, and has an influence on urbanization shape. In the processing of industrial structure upgrading, land usage and function divisions experience multiple and complex changes.Last, the study result provides us a view to reexamine the regional difference, problems and possible better-up ways of urbanization in China. Policy makers should rebuild the logic of urbanization, promote population urbanization, improve land use efficiency and set all-rounded capital mechanism. In such a way, urbanization efficiency will be remarkably improved and eventually lead to the best urbanization scale..
