Performance management as an important part of human resource management has been the engine and impulsion of organizations’ sustainable development. After more than 20 years’ reform of Chinese economy, the peripheral small and medium-size enterprise has been gradually playing the leading role.One important topic for establishing and progressing small and medium-size enterprise is building and optimizing its performance management system. Our case K is a typical representative of Chinese small and medium-sized enterprise, who has already established a set of suited performance management system for itself, meanwhile has to continuously develop and optimize the existing one due to its new market environment.This paper presents a comprehensive description of the position setting and the whole process from performance goal setting to performance appraisal and performance feedback of our case K. The life cycle of the company to select K most critical stage-from a single product sales to sell complex products as research subjects, puts forward its problems in performance management and reconstructs a new performance management system suited to its new structure, and helps K get out of the woods to improve its competitive advantage and core competence, and thus to realize its promotion to a higher stage.This paper provides both theoretical base and practical guidance for management practice, organizational performance improvement, Chinese private economy promotion, and a better development of small and medium-size enterprises.
