The Spatial Transformation And Planningreply Of Suzhou Industrial Park

In the new century, the social economic formation of the developed coastal areas are undergoing a rapid transformation from production to consumption, along with that, there is a profoundly spatial reform which is happening in Suzhou Industry Park(SIP for short). According to the Theory of social space, there has a dialectical interaction relation between society and space. Society shaped the space, so the formation, transformation and reconstruction of the space are essentially the outcomes of the social changes. Space reacted on the society however, which is an important dynamic to the social transformation. According to the perspective of the interaction between the society and space, this paper established an analysis framework of the space transformation. Started with the concept and characteristics of the Consumer Society, then, the paper analyzed the dimensions of social transformation of SIP on the basis of practical investigation, this paper mainly explained the characteristics and dynamic mechanism of the SIP’s space transformation. Based on the react on society, the paper analyzed the potential dilemmas during the spatial transformation, and proposed some coping strategies.Firstly, based on the theory of social space which is proposed by Lefebvre, the paper established a theoretical analysis framework of the “government-market-society”.Secondly, according to the analysis of the SIP’s social transformation from institutional arrangement, leading industry, social subject and social culture, and from the perspective of the “government-market-society”, the paper explained the characteristics and dynamic mechanism of the SIP’s space transformation. It finds that:(1) Since 21 st century, the SIP’s space has shown a trend that from production to consumption;(2) the behaviors of the government, enterprises, and consumers which is the major social facts that influence the spatial transformation; in addition, the consumption culture influence the spatial transformation indirectly by the influence to the subjects’ behaviors.(3) the interactive mechanism between government and market dominated the formation of the production-oriented urban space, according to the social changes, the interactive mechanism between government, market and consumers impels SIP transform to the consumer-oriented urban space.At last, based on the negative effects of the consumerism to the urban space, the paper puts forward some future strategies for the spatial planning of SIP.
