Research On The Evolution Spatial Structure For The Industry Along The SuZhou River In Putuo Distrct Of Shanghai

Rivers are the cradle of the urban civilization, but also the soul of urban development. In the period of the Industrial society, the river bank in the city became the forefront of industrial development due to its convenient traffic condition. In the post-industrial society, the river bank in the city once again becomes an important aspect of further urban development. As the mother river for Shanghai city, Suzhou River is the birthplace of Shanghai industrial civilization and had witnessed the growth of the city's economic and social development. Furthermore, the Suzhou River is also of great importance to Shanghai ecological, environmental and cultural development in the future. Based on the study of the Suzhou River, and considering the interaction of the industrial structure and the spatial structure of industry ,this paper identifies the problems existing in the spatial structure of industry along the Suzhou River and proposes recommendations to optimize the spatial structure of industry, so as to further optimization of the spatial structure of industry along the Suzhou River which is supposed to play a better role in Shanghai's future economic and social development.This paper is divided into five chapters: Chapter 1 introduces the purpose of the study and its significance, the research methods and content of the paper, the basic ideas and framework for research at home and abroad; Chapter 2 describes the evolution of the spatial structure of industry along the Suzhou River, analyses and summarizes the characteristics of the spatial structure of industry along the Suzhou River in the different history stage; Chapter 3 focuses on an analysis of the influencing factors which have been exerting the impact on the evolution of spatial structure of industry along the Suzhou River; Chapter 4 proposes suggestions to optimize the spatial structure of industry along the Suzhou River, that is to build the Suzhou River into the cultural, ecological landscape axis of the shanghai, and at the same time speed up the construction of modern service industry featuring the creative industries and eco-business; Chapter 5 Summarizes the main conclusion of the study, points out the limitation of the study.The main research findings and perspectives of this paper are listed as follow: the main function of the Suzhou River will be transformed from transportation and production into the ecotype, culture and leisure. Influencing factors such as transportation, policy, market, technology, ecological environment, labor force and capital have been affecting the evolution of spatial structure of industry along the Suzhou River which has different characteristics at different stages: the single function spatial structure of industry before liberation, the dual-function-type spatial structure of industry between the 1950 to 1990, the muti-function-type spatial structure of industry between the 1990 to nowadays. The future industrial development goal for the Suzhou River is to become the Shanghai's green eco-cultural veranda, which proposes a feasible development pattern to other cities when they take the industry development along the river into consideration.
