After the booming that gold broke the peak fare in the global markets, mining economy in China is declining rapidly and continuing a downward trend. For resource-oriented enterprises, how to overcome difficulties and get out of adversity is by far the most urgent problem. Yunnan Geology and Mineral Resources Corporation (Group) is a typical resource-based enterprise in Yunnan geological prospecting industry which takes mining as its pillar. Facing the current challenges poses by the market, the author sums up the historical development of Geology and Mineral Resources Group conscientiously as well as analyses its advantages and disadvantages of the present situation.According to the reform direction of Geology and Mineral Resources Group, finding core competence which important to its further development, the author discusses how to enhance its core competence in monographic study. There are five parts to discuss the Group’s core competence. Firstly, new methods of prospecting and reserving excellent resources in resource reservation strategy are presented. Secondly, the specific methods on how to maintaining and enhancing credentials in a standard, feasible, effective way in qualification strategy are given. Thirdly, methods are proposed in the strategic employment of original geological data. Fourthly, in terms of talent strategy, a personnel planning from2014to2020of the Geology and Mineral Resources Group is detailed. Finally, directing at current mining economic downturn situation, this paper elaborates two leading strategies to achieve cost leadership:promoting enterprise’s internal market and comprehensive budget.
