Based on the achievements of previous researches and available geophysical data, the author discuses how DF breaks the technical bottleneck in overseas processing and interpretation to increase its share and competitiveness in the world market. In the study, the author combines the dialectical analysis, comparative analysis and comprehensive analysis. Under the current background of global geophysical industry, the results may provide valuable reference for DF in making future strategic decisions. This paper begins with the concept and principle of marketing, and then provides an adequate and systematic investigation on target customers, business segments and competitors under the macro environments and target markets where DF conducts the processing and interpretation business. Focal points involve characteristics and trends of the world petroleum markets and geophysical markets, current processing and interpretation on four key regional markets (i.e. Middle East, Africa, Asia, and America), business demands of different oil companies (i.e. IOCs, NOCs, and Chinese-invested oil companies), and situations of four business segments (i.e. onshore data processing and interpretation services, offshore data processing and interpretation services, reservoir development services, and multi-user business). Next, considering DF’s actual marketing activities in overseas processing and interpretation business, and with available knowledge of marketing, this paper proposes several unreasonable factors in respect of market structure and industrial structure, through benchmarking. They are mainly reflected in single source market and weak competitiveness on high-end market as a result of insufficient talents and technical innovation, which are both bottlenecks for the industry development. In this regard, the author makes a detailed design and planning of marketing strategies for further development from the prospective of target markets, target customers and business segments. Finally, the strategies are effectively followed and implemented through setting up efficient marketing teams, establishing appropriate reward and punishment systems and taking preventive and protective measures against foreseeable risks. After analysis, the author suggests talents and technologies as the major bottlenecks for the future business development. Therefore, we should make particular efforts to train the talents and provide more innovative technologies. Following the overseas development of CNPC, we will consolidate and promote CNPC’s overseas processing and interpretation markets, actively explore non-CNPC markets, change the single market structure, and enhance the ability to resist risks. We will develop a variety of industrial chains to transform from single to integrated processing and interpretation. We will also devote to reservoir, multi-user business, IT and other operations, so as to nourish new economic growth points. All these can help us to enhance our market share and industrial competitiveness.
