In the past decades, China has achieved remarkable economic achievements. According to the report by the World Tourism Organization, China’s tourism industry will keep developing and show greater potential in the service market. During this time, it is very important to support the hotels as the leading role for the tourism service industry. Some of the domestic star hotels have shown good examples of gaining an edge in the intensive market competition by taking use of the local resources and adopting a professional management system.Practice has proved that human resource management will greatly affect the hotel operation’s success, and that is why the HR department is highly valued among all the other sectors of a hotel. Meanwhile, the knowledge of HR management is necessary for managers of all departments to obtain and practice. The case study of Hainan Sun City Hotel proved that recruitment of high quality staff and stimulation of their potential are very critical to the hotel’s competitiveness. Although the hotel has set up a whole system of HR policies, real problems occurred on many aspects in the practice. This essay will put insight into these problems by firstly introducing the current situation of the HR management; and then analyzing the problems and proposing possible solutions with the support of HR management theories.
