Social Network Analysis Of Stakeholder Relationships During Construction Industrialization In China

As the pillar industry in the national economy, China construction industry features such problems as extensive development mode, insufficient technologies, enormous consumption of resources, massive discharge of waste, frequently-happened engineering quality and safety accidents, low productivity, and low labor quality, so on. In general, all these problems are severely restricting the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry and the healthy sustainable development of the construction industry. It is extremely urgent to transform the production mode by relying on system and institutional innovation, technological innovation, in order to promote the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry, and the healthy sustainable development of the construction industry. Construction industrialization is a critical strategy for transforming the development mode of China construction industry. It has become a hot issue in the industry to carry out scientific researches and engineering practices on this field.Construction industrialization generally features standardized design, factory production, pre-assembled construction, and information-based management. It aims to create a complete, organic industrial chain, thus realizing a sustainable new-type construction production mode that utilizes energy-saving, environmentally friendly building products, and maximizes the value of the full life circle of the products.Construction industrialization involves multiple stakeholders, including the government, construction unit, investigation and design unit, general contract unit, component manufacturer, and academic institutes, etc. Therefore, it requires coordination between different professions and organizations, as well as integrated application. The relationship between the stakeholders is an objectively existed social structure. Any type of social relationship will have positive or negative influence on the behavior of the other stakeholders. As a result, this creates a complicated social network system.Social network analysis is an advantageous tool for studying the interaction between organizations, and exploring the rules of the deeper network concealed under the complicated social system. During the development process of construction industrialization, social network analysis can effectively express the forms and attributes of the relationship network, as well as the mutual influence on adopting behavioral strategies. It is of great promotional effect for the development of construction industrialization by analyzing the social network system of stakeholders. It is the cutting-edge issue in the construction management domain.This paper takes several ensuring housing projects that adopt the industrialized construction mode as the research objects, and obtains the relationship matrix between the stakeholders through questionnaire and depth interview. Social network is used to analyze the network features. The paper primarily discusses the influence of policies, technologies and management factors on the relationships and network positions between the stakeholders.
