Abstract/Summary:
Event industry is an important component of modern service industry and manyregions and cities are developing it in China. This article evaluates the level of spatialagglomeration of event industry and the impact factors analysis from event industryperspective. The whole research process can be summarized as one general, twoaspects, three levels, four dimensions and five impact factors.Specifically speaking, the exhibition is the main product and the exhibition venue isthe main carrier of the event industry. Thus this paper gathered from the exhibitonagglomeration (demand) and the exhibition venue agglomeration (supply) two aspectsto analyze the agglomeration of the event industry. This paper measures the overallagglomeration situation of China’s event industry through the Spatial Gini Coefficient,Herfindahl-Hirschman Index and E-G Index. And the LQ Index is used to measure theregion, province and city three levels’ event agglomeration situation and to get thecomprehensive understanding of China’s event industry space layout features. This isthe first time to put forward the four-dimensional theoretical framework that is used toanalyze the effect factors of China’s event industry agglomeration. And then make anempirical test using the city exhibition and venue data and identify five factors thateffect the exhibition agglomeration. From the industry perspective, this paper argues that China’s exhibition industryagglomeration phenomenon is lower than manufacturing and other service industriesand the agglomeration degree is gradually reducing. The enterprises cluster of China’sexhibition industry is far higher than that of manufacturing and other serviceindustries, especially the agglomeration degree of exhibition. At present, China’sexhibition’s agglomeration degree is higher than the exhibiton venues’, and China’sevent industry is irrational allocation of resources. From the spatial perspective, this paper points out the phenomenon of spatialagglomeration of event industry appears among the provinces and cities, but notamong the regions. The agglomeration trends are different among the different regionlevels. Specifically speaking, the exhibition agglomeration degree rises while theexhibiton venues agglomeration degree gradually spread at the regional level. At theprovincial level, the exhibition agglomeration degree was spread and the he exhibitionvenue has experienced "agglomeration-diffusion-gather again-to spread" the volatilityof the change process. At the city level, present the slow spread of the exhibitionindustry development situation. In exhibition industry resources, studies in the micro level, the more serious the degree of that resource allocation is not reasonable.Based on the relating theories, this article gives a four dimensional theory framework,"elements-space-city-government", to analyze the factors that influence the spatialagglomeration of event industry. Based on the variables chosen by this article, laborcapital facor, information level, the degree of opening to the out side and the eventindustry association have positive impact on the exhibition spatial agglomeration, however the population has the nonlineare impact on the spatial agglomeration-inverted U shaped relationship. The construction of the exhibition venue is seriouseffected by the government, so the effect analysis from the market economy can notbe effective to explain the agglomeration of exhibition venues.
