With the continuous innovation and development of science and technology, product life cycle are getting shorter, Companies need to constantly introduce new products. And this requires higher level of R&D management. Product development has become the focus of enterprise competition. The overall R&D management level of Chinese is not high enough, they lack product innovation capacity and core technology and they are not paying enough attention to quality management. The problems of R&D management in small and medium enterprises are more serious. Given the situation that they do not have advantage in terms of human resource, capital, or technology, they need to improve R&D management rapidly, to shorten the development cycle of new products and develop new products that meet the needs of the market. They need to increase R&D efficiency and company’s competitiveness in the market.By studying the R&D management related theories domestic and abroad, including integrated product development, Concurrent Engineering (CE), Value Engineering (VE), this paper has carried out a profound analysis in Integrated Product Development (IPD). IPD has been adapted by many enterprises throughout the world and it is proved to be an advanced and mature solution for systematic R&D management. It can help reinforce market management and demand analysis, formulate product strategy, create platform for product R&D, realize structuralized R&D, shorten life cycle of new product development, normalize R&D procedure, which includes concept design, project plan, product R&D, product test and release, product life cycle management. IPD provides enterprises with a mind structure for R&D management and R&D procedure, and helps the enterprise manager to make up a systematic solution for R&D management.W is a small-to-medium company with R&D, manufacturing and sales capacity. After more than20years’continuous development, the company has become the leader in public address industry. Currently, the company’s R&D is expanding and the amount of R&D projects is getting bigger. However, the R&D results are not satisfactory and the R&D life cycle is too long. Therefore, the company has laid out higher claim to R&D management. Based on the actual status of the company’s R&D management, this paper has studied the problems and deficiencies in R&D management and R&D process. With the guidance of IPD theory structure, this paper has brought out a R&D management mode, R&D process and an implement measure that are suitable for W company. At the stage of product R&D planning, the paper has brought in the R&D concepts of Value Engineering, manufacture oriented and customer use oriented, and uses the Concurrent Engineering concept through the whole R&D system. At the same time, this paper has also brought in internet concept, brought out the R&D method of production-study-research development, collaborative development, consigned development, which coordinates the R&D and innovation management, and put it into new R&D management and R&D process.It is hoped that the achievement of this paper can help W company solve the problems in R&D management, lead the company to a higher level in R&D management, develop more products that exceed customers’demand, increase the company’s core competitiveness.
