The3D digital model is created by computeraided design software or3D scanner, then produced by3D printer. The3D printingprocess turns the virtual design into physical objects. Compared to subtractivemanufacturing,3D printing features the short delivery time, easy to form complexobjects and many other advantages. World’s first3D printer was commercialized in1987, along with the development of technology and recognition, the applicationrange of3D printing expands widely, covering medical, aerospace, art and otherindustries.This thesis refers to a large number of relevant literature and data, explains thework flow of3D printing, the development history, mainstream technology andpractical applications. By means of comparing the differences of research, applicationand development between China and other countries, this thesis analyzes the industrychain and competition pattern of3D printing, and establish the market and orientationof3D printing industry in China. With the help of SWOT analysis, this thesiselaborates the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of China’s3D printingindustry.
